Youth in the community

We don't just work from our YMCA Space centres. We also operate our youth work programmes within the community; we go wherever people are! You may well see us at events, in parks, in schools or in your town centre.

When we're out and about, we do loads of different bits and pieces:

Sports projects

YMCA has always been involved in sports as we believe this is a great way to keep  healthy as well as have  fun and get to know each other a bit better. To find out what's happening, have a look at our calendar.

School/College projects

We also meet young people during their lunchtimes at school or in Oaklands College. This is a great way of meeting people and being able to get support for stuff you might not want to discuss with staff at school or college. It is also a great link into the rest of the activities organised by the YMCA Youth Work Team.

....and just being out and about

You may bump into some of the YMCA Youth Work team while your about and about across the Welwyn and Hatfield Community. We have team of youth workers offering ‘detached youth work' services - these are members of the youth work team who offer information, advice, guidance, signposting and activities, but not attached to any building. Instead they may be wandering up your street, or in your park - have a look out for them, and say hello if you see them!

We are always looking to develop new activities or partner with other organisations to respond to opportunities that arise. These might include, special events, countryside activities and apprenticeships. To find out more about these activities, either pop into your nearest Space centre or have a look at our events calendars for Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City or Stevenage.
