YMCA Housing

The YMCA is a friendly and welcoming place for those that live there

We provide a home and support for 123 local people who might otherwise be homeless at our Peartree Lane site in Welwyn Garden City. Our housing support staff help our residents develop the skills and confidence they need to gain a job and move on to independent living.

People come to live at the YMCA for a variety of reasons, but most often these are linked to the breakdown of family relationships. As a result we find many people are not just in need of housing but also need help rebuilding their self-confidence, developing life skills, and some need tailored support as they overcome personal issues such as alcohol misuse.

The YMCA offers residents a wide range of services and activities to support their individual needs through our Personal Development Programmes (PDP). We also offer life skills activities which cover a wide range of topics from budgeting and shopping to healthy living and cooking within our training kitchen. These are skills that many of us take for granted - but without this support many of our residents would be unable to move on to independent living.

At this present time YMCA Central Herts does not offer a direct access hostel to apply for housing please refer to our application process and criteria. Should you have an immediate housing need then please refer to our housing advice section.
