Put simply YMCA Space is the ‘ Living Room on the High Street' - an accessible, free, safe place to be; a place where everyone is accepted, can belong, contribute and develop.
YMCA Space is for everyone! We provide a range of free activities to meet the need of the local community, based around a drop-in café and drop-in youth centre. YMCA Space is a partnership project led by YMCA Central Herts bringing together a wide range of over 40 community stakeholders, including local churches and community organisations, to provide expertise, volunteers, services and activities. Activities include a young parents’ toddler group, a listening service for those affected by bereavement, a beginners computer class, an after school club and a youth club. We also partner other agencies such as the Credit Union and Citizen's Advice Bureau.
In November 2009, Space established itself as an essential community service when it was named runner up in the Directory of Social Change Awards for the 'Everyday Impact' Award. We were delighted to be acknowledged in this nationally recognised competition and to be placed second from the 300 nominations across all the award categories.
