Mary’s Story

In January 2009 the YMCA gave Mary, then aged 17, the opportunity to work in a number of its teams across the organisation including Human Resources as part of the Government's Entry to Employment scheme (E2E). During this time she was asked if she would like to volunteer at the nursery because of her previous child care experience.

It took just one day for Mary to realise that she wanted to gain more experience in this area and transferred to the nursery. Mary is now undertaking her NVQ Level 2 in Childcare and hopes to gain a permanent job in the nursery.

Mary says about her experience, ‘I'm glad that I started the E2E. I enjoyed the admin roles but was glad to have the opportunity to go to the nursery which made me think about my career. I enjoy working with the children, it is a challenge which I enjoy and I'm learning new stuff everyday'.
