Children's Centres

A Sure Start Children's Centre is a place in the community offering access to information and services for childrenunder five and their families.
Children's Centres provide information, advice and services for parents and carers with children aged 0- 5 years. A wide range of services are available and may include stay and play sessions, parenting courses, baby massage, school holiday sessions, story sacks and baby rhyme time to name a few.
YMCA Central Herts is the lead agency for four Children's Centres in Hertfordshire. These are:
Children's Centres are the universal provision across the country, ensuring that every child gets the best start in life. They enable all families with children to have access to affordable, flexible, high-quality services.
The services available at each centre will vary according to the local requirements, but may include:
- Support for parents - including advice on parenting, local childcare options and access to specialist services for families
- Child and family health services - ranging from health screening, health visitor services to breast-feeding support
- Helping parents into work - with links to the local Jobcentre Plus and training.
