Youth Centres
YMCA Space is the core of our youth work. With three centres – Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield and Stevenage now open we are meeting young people every week – and have been doing so for over two years - and still growing!
Over 200 11-19s come to YMCA Space every week. They tell us that it's a safe, fun place, where they get to meet new people and spend time with their friends. Have a look at the calendar to see when we are open, and what events are on.

How Space WGC Has Effected Me
I am one of the original young people from Space WGC I started to come here at the end of year six when I was just ten. The youth workers at Space made it easy to make new friends, and they always helped me with everything like homework and writing songs.
Space has moved a few doors down but everyone still comes to Space and everyone loves it the same because after all its not always the place you are at, it’s the people your with.
I like it at space because there is something to do all of the time and a big variety of activities to do. During the summer we all went on a trip to aqua splash, it was a great day and we all had an amazing time.
A week after that we went to Thorpe Park, which was the funniest day I've had in a long time. I was allowed to bring my friend and she loved it. Everyone had fun that day and I went on loads of amazing rides, it was so fun!
Just the other week I was auditioning for a main part in a show I was practicing a lot and the youth workers at space helped me so much by writing lyrics, especially Karen (one of the youth workers), she helped me loads and she supported me all the way. Even though I didn't get the part everyone cheered me up and now they're coming to watch me sing in a concert! I hope it goes well!
Space has made everything easier for me it’s somewhere I can go to laugh and the youth workers are always here to help. If ever I need someone to talk to Space is the first place I will go. So thanks to everyone at Space WGC.

Happy Smiling People
Space has helped me as it has given me somewhere to go, instead of walking around causing trouble for the police. Space has made people smile when they come in and made people welcome, they are always willing to help you. It helps the community make a strong bond, and also give the community something to do.
Space has a wide range of actives on offer, pool, cooking, milkshake and smoothie making, nail painting, film night, Wii, music, computers. The doors are always open so they can give advice.
Two of the youth workers called Anne and Julie are always here – smiling, welcoming youths to come in to space.
We have come in for advice and there is a lovely women called Carol, Carol is always a happy smiling person and has always made Space feel welcoming, Carol has a good bond with youngsters and helps youths when they are in a bad mood.
