Take the YMCA Sleep Easy 2012 challenge
Sleep rough so others don’t have to!YMCA Central Herts is looking for teams to take the Sleep Easy challenge on Friday 2nd March, a national event held by YMCA’s across the country.
As the cold weather now starts to bite, you can keep warm this winter but for many people who have to sleep on the streets, life is very different. The good news is that there is an easy way you can make a real difference to those people in our community.
Sleep Easy is an exciting fundraising event that seeks to raise awareness of homelessness in the local community in addition to raising much needed funds to help tackle the issue in the future. Spend an evening underneath the stars at either Sainsbury’s in Poplars, Stevenage or at The Galleria in Hatfield and experience what is for many people an everyday reality. We will supply the cardboard boxes so that you can create your own shelter, with prizes for the most elaborate and best decorated boxes as well as a top fundraiser prize.
Joanne Hussain, Community Fundraiser for YMCA Central Herts said, “Sleep Easy is a very social event so we are encouraging families, work mates and groups of friends to enter as teams. Homelessness is such a significant issue, and this is everybody’s opportunity to help. It will be cold and it will be a challenge, but it’s always a very fun and eye opening experience.”
Last year the top fundraising team The Gleeks managed to raise an impressive £1,178. They said “We accepted the challenge of sleeping rough for a night to understand what some people have to endure every night and to raise money so that some individuals might be spared.”
Could you and your friends or work colleagues give up just one night to help ensure that somebody will have a warm room for the future? Why not sign up before Christmas and ask for sponsorship instead of receiving gifts? To get involved visit www.ymcacentralherts.org.uk/sleepeasy or call Joanne on 01707 290717
