YMCA Space launches new basement!

Local Charity YMCA Central Herts unveiled the brand new refurbished basement facility at YMCA Space Hatfield Youth and Community Centre on Thursday 11^th October 2012. The launch of the new basement coincides with YMCA Space Hatfield’s 2^nd birthday which attracted around 100 people to help celebrate the occasion.

Tracy Crowley, Centre Manager at YMCA Space Hatfield said, “We have a lot of big things planned for the new basement, it’s the perfect space to hold a variety of different workshop sessions and courses provided by YMCA Central Herts and our partners. YMCA Space is also celebrating its’ 2^nd birthday this week, and the launch of the new YMCA Space Basement is a brilliant gift to give back to the local community!”

YMCA Space Hatfield can be found at Queensway House opposite ASDA, next door to the library and provides a place for people to pop in for a free cup of tea; meet new people get involved or take part in specialist activities such as learning computer skills, art sessions and YMCA Youth activities. The new basement space is designed to be flexible and to adjust to whatever sessions are taking place at the time to best fit the needs of the local community.

A whiteboard was left in the basement for visitors to write down what they would like to see in the new space, some of the suggestions included an arts and crafts room, Job Club, poetry corner and music sessions.

Christine Novelli, YMCA Space Development Manager said ‘It’s amazing that with the help of so many volunteers and partners, and in only 2 years, 1000’s of people, both young and old, have benefitted from YMCA Space Hatfield. We are really looking forward to this next phase of bringing more opportunities and skills into the hands of local people’
