Shoot a Hoop for YMCA Central Herts

Join in the YMCA World Challenge!

YMCA Central Herts is joining 58 YMCAs across England, and hundreds more across the globe, taking part in a world record attempt for the largest number of people shooting basketball hoops in just one day.

Basketball was invented at a YMCA training school in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891 and is now one of the most popular sports in the world.

YMCA Central Herts will be holding the world record breaking attempt outside the main entrance of the Howard Centre in Welwyn Garden City on Saturday October 13th, from 10:30am until 12:30pm where supporters can simply turn up and take part.

Joanna Christophi, Director of Fundraising and Marketing for YMCA Central Herts said. “The YMCA World Challenge is an excellent way to get local people involved in a fun event that spans across the world; it really increases the sense of the global community that the YMCA is made up of. It doesn’t matter who you are or how old you are, come along and have a go at the basketball hoop on Saturday!”

The record attempt aims to involve more than 5 million people in YMCAs across the world, officially starting in New Zealand and following the time zones around the globe to finish in Hawaii.
